You have surely heard the term “inflammation” before. Many times it is associated with being hit, an infection of the skin, or other issues more or less troubling. But inflammation may be a much larger health issue and it can constitute the main symptom of some serious diseases such as cancer or diabetes.
Inflammation is generated by several factors: a sugar-rich diet, trans fats, sedentary behaviour, certain microbes, etc. Scientists are studying this particular issue very carefully since it appears that inflammation has a powerful antidote in the consumption of certain healthy foods.
The Northern Diet has been recently emphasized among the simplest solutions against inflammation, as this is a diet based on the consumption of fatty fish growing in cold waters, berries, whole cereals and canola oil obtained by cold-pressing.
Finnish scientists assessed the health state of 104 people diagnosed as being overweight, a strong level of inflammation in the body, and recommended they stick to the Northern diet, rich in valuable nutritive elements such as Omega 3 fatty acids, antioxidants and fibre. After only 24 weeks, doctors re-assessed the patients and observed a reduction in the inflammation of the body, even if the excessive weight was maintained. So you can bet on the benefits of fat fish, berries and whole oats to decrease the risk of metabolic syndrome and cancer. Dieticians recommend two fish meals per week and the daily intake of whole cereals and berries, low in calories but rich in vitamins and antioxidants.
