Kids might be on vacation, but us, the grown ups might not be ready for a vacation yet. However, the heat can become unbearable in Bucharest and, at times, we don’t even feel like leaving the house. But when you do want to defeat the heat and get more active, what should you do?
Here’s a list of 5 cool activities you can do in Bucharest during this hot month of June, for those of you who can’t even begin to think of a vacation yet.
Walks through the garden
Don’t worry, you don’t need your own garden to do so. You can go explore the Botanical Garden, the Japanese Garden and even a park– Herastrau, Cismigiu, IOR. There’s plenty opportunities for those times when you want to hide yourself from the burning sun under the shade of the trees.
If you still feel like going away from the city for a day, you can choose to explore the surroundings: have a picninc at the Golesti Domain, visit the Stirbei or Mogosoaia Pallaces, or go on a hike through the forest in Snagov.
Spending a day at a water park or pool
Thankfully, Bucharest has plenty of options for both kids and grown ups. Classsy pools where you can relax and have a nice cocktail under a palm tree, or get adventurous on water slides. If you want to relax for a while you can try Therme, but if you’re looking for adventures, Zumbaala Wake Park or Divertiland are the best choices.
Our advice? If you can, go there during the week, so you can avoid the the crowd and enjoy a true relaxing day.
Visit an outdoor cinema
During summer, plenty of parks in Bucharest host outdoor cinemas that anyone can enjoy for free. Keep an eye open for those, or, if you’re too anxious to wait, you will be happy to know that in Bucharest you can find some fancy bars and restaurants that constantly project some of the best movies on their rooftops.
Places like this are Gradina cu Filme, Modelier or Café Verona, but outdoor movie festivals will also take place in parks like IOR or Herastrau and you can read more about it on the Bucharest City Hall website.
Take your loved one by the and and go explore!
Take your friends to an outdoor festival
Music festivals, food or movie festivals or even urban art festivals will take place during the whole summer, and they represent one of the best activities to change your routine.
For all alternative, jazz, rock lovers, Summer Well, George Enescu International Festival, Shine Festival and Rock the City are among the most popular events this summer.
Staying healthy – cliché or reality?
Yes, last but not least, stay healthy and protected during the summer heat wave. Sunscreen, sunglasses and water are three things that should never miss from your bag, wherever you go.
Sunglasses have the ability to absorb and block 99 to 100% of the damaging UVA and UVB light, while the regular use sunscreen reduces the risk of melanoma by 50-73%.
Even if water is essential in the hydrating process, nutritionists have at least 10 other methods to diversify: try soups, milk, yogurt, fresh vegetables or iced teas. Don’t forget, even if the myth says you should drink 2 litres of water every day, you can drink as much as your body asks you for. However, doctors recommend at least 250 ml of water every day, for each kilogram you weight.
