Bucharest, July 25th 2017. Considering that the incidence of skin cancer is constantly rising, with over 2 million new patients every year across Europe, MediHelp International announces that the NESACARD, the card for oncological funding launched in Romania in June 2017, can cover the costs of skin cancer diagnosis, up to 2,000 eur.
Melanoma, the most dangerous type of skin cancer, represents 1% of the cases, often among women aged 20 -39. Moreover, melanoma is responsible for 5,000 deaths among the 18,000 patients diagnosed annually in Europe (Melanoma Molecular Map Project - MMMP).
Last year, in Romania, doctors have diagnosed over 1,000 new cases of melanom which resulted in 364 deaths, says the Romanian Society of Dermato-Oncology.
Also in Romania, the incidence rate of melanoma is 4.7 for men and 4.4 for women, for every 100,000 people. Although easy to treat, the lack of education amongst Romanians about the importance of prevention and early diagnosis has resulted in the lowest survival rate in Europe - 5 years.
Skin cancer can be easily treated when diagnosed during the early stage, when the tumour has not yet spread, but can also be easily prevented if we avoid sun exposure and use SPF lotions whenever we go out.
However, According to the British publication Express, 61% of men are not concerned with applying sun cream when they are exposed to sunlight, versus 54% of the women who claim the same thing.
The NESACARD is an intelligent solution for financing first stages investigations, medical navigation and second opinion in case of unexpected cancer diagnostic while, at the same time, it is a charitable contribution to the advancement in oncological treatment and research in Europe.
„The NESACARD can be claimed by anyone who desires to contribute to oncological research and have access to a form of financial support in case of an emergency, whether the suspect something or not. For a 33€ yearly contribution, the customer receives a card with an individual number which, in case they might need, will pay 2,000 €, in cash, to help with first stages oncological investigations and diagnostics”, explains Zahal Levy, President of MediHelp International.
Among the medical services that can be covered by the NESA card are skin biopsy, imaging tests for diagnosis, second opinion for confirmation of diagnosis and medical navigation.
Here’s what you should do in order to prevent skin cancers of all type:
- Avoid sun exposure especially between 10 AM and 4 PM and stay in the shade;
- Avoid UV tanning beds;
- Use sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 15 during the entire day
- Use polarized sunglasses that block both UVA and UVB rays;
- Examine your skin at least once every six months, and check with your doctor if you notice any anomalies.
